PHARMACOLOGICAL GROUP: Excitant of the central nervous system.

International name: Caffeine (Caffeine);
The tablet: Caffeine (80mg) + sodium benzoate (120mg) - 200 mg;
PHARMACOLOGICAL OPERATION: Caffeine – sodium benzoate stimulates the
central nervous system, increases physical and intellectual working capacity,
reduces fatigue, raises the motor center of breath and blood vessels,
strengthens intensity and frequency of compression of cardiac muscle, expands
vessels in the brain, skeleton muscles, heart and kidneys, narrows vessels in abdominal
organs.
PHARMACOKINETICS: Caffeine and its salts are well absorbed from
intestines (large intestine), T 1/2 makes up 5 hours, in some cases 10 h. The
main part of the preparation demethylates and oxidate, about 10% are excreted
in unchanged form, the preparation slowly eliminates at time of chest feeding
of newborns and children (T 1/2 80-26.3 h.).
INDICATIONS:
• Arterial hypotension;
• Headache
caused by the spasm of brain blood vessels (including migraine); (It is used in combination with other
medicines, for example with acetylsalicylic acid);
• The diseases accompany deterioration of
physical and intellectual working capacity;
oppression of the central nervous system;
• Oppression
of the respiratory center (poisoning with drugs, infectious diseases,
etc.);
• Drowsiness;
• After application of general anesthesia for
restoration of necessary level of pulmonary ventilation;
• For
children is used at time of enuresis.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
• Arterial hypertension;
• Organic diseases of cardiovascular system
(atherosclerosis);
• Excitement;
• Sleeplessness;
• Glaucoma;
• Elderly age;
• Children under 5 years.
ORDER OF INTAKE AND DOSAGE: The preparation
is taken peroral 2-3 times in a day. Doses are individual. The single dose for
adults and children more than 14 years makes up 100-200 mg. The highest single
dose – 500 mg, the highest daily dose – 1000 mg. For children from 5 to 14 years is prescribed
30-75 mg. 2-3 times in a day. The preparation isn’t intake before sleep.
Duration of therapeutic course is established by the doctor according to
disease severity and treatment results.
SIDE EFFECTS: Uneasiness, excitement, tachycardia,
sleeplessness, nausea, vomiting, long application of apreparation can cause
easy habituation.
The sudden termination of preparation intake
may cause oppression of the central nervous system, drowsiness, with fatigue
and depression development.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: At time of preparation application it isn't recommended to drink coffee,
strong tea, other tonics and alcohol.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION: Caffeine –
sodium benzoate gets through a placental barrier; at time of pregnancy the
preparation is prescribed only if the possible advantage for mother exceeds
potential risk for the fruit;
Caffeine – sodium benzoate gets into the chest
milk and therefore during treatment it is necessary to stop chest feeding.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER
PREPARATIONS: Reduces effect of sleeping and anesthetic
means, strengthens bioavailability of acetylsalicylic acid, paracetamol and
other nonnarcotic analgesic means; improves absorption of ergotamine in the
gastrointestinal tract.
OVERDOSE: At time of caffeine overdose may develop excitement, trembling,
headache, turbidity of mind and extrasystole.
TREATMENT: In case of overdose is used solution
of the activated charcoal by means of gastric lavage.

VALIDITY: 4 years.
STORAGE CONDITIONS: Store at temperatures not exceeding 25°C,
dry, protected from light and away from children.
In case of visual defects and expiry of validity date, the preparation
can not be used.
